Without fanfare, the Senate did the right thing this afternoon and passed unanimously a bill to force the Congress to vote on their own pay raises. For years, Congress has automatically gotten pay raises without having to vote on them. Not right.

Even though we have decided there will be no raises this year, it’s important that we get back to having to vote on pay raises. This bill was offered as an amendment on the stimulus bill, and now it has been passed by the Senate separately. I hope the House does the right thing and follows suit.
